Google Releases Lists of the Most Googled Subjects of 2017

Top Google Searches 2017

The end of the year is fast approaching and as often is the case at this time of year, we get a lot of top 10 lists. Google, however, has released one that might be more interesting than usual.

The search engine has released a number of top 10s for categories of most-searched items. While some of these are not unexpected, there are a few surprise additions to the list. Although, strangely enough, not much about themselves, despite a busy Google news year.

In a report via the Independent, the list is broken into different areas.

Top 10 results

Not so much a case of ‘feeling lucky’ here. You can find below the top searches based on their area. So, for example Floyd Mayweather would come under sports and The Walking Dead is under television.

TOP 10 TRENDING QUERIES

Put simply, the top 10 searches which caused trending spikes. Presumably, the ranking is based on the height of the traffic spikes.
Meghan Markle
iPhone 8
Hurricane Irma
Fidget spinner
Manchester bombing
Grenfell Tower
13 Reasons Why
Tara Palmer Tomkinson
Shannon Matthews
iPhone X

TOP 10 ‘HOW TO’ GUIDES

Each one of the following (preceded by ‘How to’) ranks what we wanted to know the most this year.
Make slime?
Buy Bitcoin?
Stay young?
Watch Mayweather vs McGregor? (presumably entirely legally of course).
Watch Joshua vs Klitschko? (again, I’m sure though legal sources).
Mine Bitcoins?
Make Yorkshire pudding?
Make a fidget spinner?
Vote in the general election?
Lose belly fat fast?

TOP 10 ‘WHAT IS’ QUESTIONS

We found out what we wanted to do, so what did we want to find out about? (Remember all questions are proceeded with ‘What is’).
A hung parliament?
An exit poll?
The Confederations Cup?
Bitcoin?
The Antikythera mechanism?
A pangolin? (I just Googled this myself. It’s some kind of crazy anteater creature).
A general election?
Waterboarding? (Hopefully just for curiosity rather than application).
The DUP?
Pink’s real name?

What? No Google?

Despite all that Google has done this year, they don’t get a mention themselves I’m afraid. That isn’t, of course, taking the inception style query of Googling Google on Google. It does make us think though, what we will want to know or learn about next year.

What do you think? Any surprises for you there? What did you search for? Burnley in a relegation dogfight?! – Let us know in the comments!
